The 1881 Morgan Silver Dollar was minted at 4 us mints just as the 188o Morgan Silver Dollar, we have the Philadelphia mint, San Francisco,  New Orleans, and Carson City.

People want to know what  is an 1881 Morgan Silver Dollar value, you do need to have some information about the coin before that can be answered, such as the condition and the mint mark. Lets take a look at some stats.

1881 Plain: Philadelphia Has no mint mark which is why it is call plain and how you know identify it. Unless you have this Morgan Dollar in a brilliant uncirculated condition your talking under $50. Coins as you may know are graded on a scale of 1 to 70 a a brilliant uncirculated or bu starts as mint state  ms60.

If you plan on selling the coin you may want to get it graded if you believe it is in a higher condition like a gem bu ms65 or better they can go for a few hundred or more again it comes down to condition, the difference between ms66 or ms67 is a big deal.

1881-S Silver Dollar: You want to have this coin in a bu condition as well. Coins from San Francisco are known for being sharp in detail as they had a unique minting process. To go for more than a couple hundred needs to be ms 66 or better.

1881-CC  Morgan Silver Dollar Though the 1881 Carson City had a lower mintage that an 1889 it is not nearly as rare. still an excellent coin to have as part of your collection. If you plan to sell it is a good idea to have it graded as an almost uncirculated to a bu is going to make a few hundred dollar difference.

There are many ways to collect Morgan Dollars some like buying Silver Dollars in bulk and picking through the coins. Others spend time just going after 1 mint, some collect by variety. Of course many people  collect Morgan Silver Dollars for the excellent track record of going up in value.
