Silver Eagle Dollars were first produced by the us mint in 1986 they are the largest, heaviest, and purest silver dollar, Silver Eagle’s weigh in at 1 full troy once of .999 pure silver.

For the last couple years the us mint has had problems keeping up with the demand for the silver bullion coin in fact if you go to there site you are likely to see the following msg “Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Currently, all available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand”

It goes without saying that it is also true for the American Eagle Gold Coins as well. In fact the US mint used to make smaller denominations of the $50 Gold piece in the form of the $5, $10 and $25 now it is only the $50. “Production of United States Mint American Eagle Gold Proof and Uncirculated Coins has been temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins.”

“Due to the continued, sustained demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2009-dated American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins were not produced.”

The American Silver Eagle Dollar is also known as the Walking Liberty Dollar Because the obverse of the coin features
Lady Liberty striding toward the light of a new day, taken from the original design by Adolph A. Weinman on the Walking Liberty half dollar.

Silver Eagle were not minted for circulation the were minted for collectors and as we can see there is an unprecedented demand for both gold and silver coins.

American Eagles come in both the uncirculated and proof silver eagles. Proofs generally have a lower mintage and as such command a higher premium. One note worth example is the 1996 west point. Mintage a mere 5,000 a recent listing pr70
was selling for more than $30,000

Prior To the Silver Eagles were the Peace Dollar, minted 1921 to 1928 and again in 1935, and Morgan Silver Dollars minted from 1878

to 1904 and again in 1921
